The Perfect Shot.
I'll just come out and say it, I hate taking pictures. I can
think of a handful of times I have taken a photo and felt like the image was a true
reflection of myself. The other 8 million pictures of me are pictures of pure
impostors. My face is not that chubby, my nose is not that big, I am taller
than that, this outfit is much cuter and so on and so on. These are just the
physical lies I feel photos capture. I am also not as cool or confident as
these pictures portray.
No matter how many awesome pictures I take, I always opt to
post the ones that make me look a touch awkward. I feel like these ones are the
most me. I like all the pictures I share to say “pretty but very liable to trip
while walking” because this is truth. On my new journey as a blogger I have had
to take every opportunity to take photos so that I have content to share. Whoo
has this been hard! Not only do I not like taking pictures, I don’t really like
asking people to take pictures of me. For years I have been the girl behind the
phone rolling my eyes while trying to get the best angles of my friends. That
friend that needs 100 pictures taken everywhere she goes may be annoying, but
she is also a genius. Pictures are important! They are the only thing on this
planet that can capture an exact moment exactly how it is. Pictures also possess
the power to show who you are and who you have the possibly of being.
Moving to New York has given me the opportunity to hang
around some pretty dope bloggers and influencers. Taking pictures is a huge
part of their day to day life. I learned to admire their confidence and
fearlessness. Yes, I referred to the person who asked for pictures as
“confident and fearless”. You may be thinking “girl they asked for a picture
not slayed Goliath!” For someone as camera shy as me they are brave. They have
shown me that you get so much more out of taking pictures then when you don’t
take them at all. What’s the worst that could come out of snapping a few pictures
when you feel cute or are somewhere cool?
That image looking back at you is no façade, everything in
that photo is in you. Sure, you may be fake smiling, but let that server as a
reminder that you can smile. Yes, you may feel awkward sexy posing, but know you
are capable of being sexy. No, that event you’re at may not be that fun, but
you are there so make the best of it and flick it up.
If you have every missed a good photo opt because you feared
that people would stare or you couldn’t conjure up the confidence to smile and
pose, I challenge you to never let that happen again.
Get those likes up!
Xoxo,
Sigourneyb
