#Selfcareeveryday

Selfcare varies from person to person. It could mean a trip to the salon or a nice long walk. It could even mean taking a much-needed nap. More recently selfcare to me has meant doing whatever I feel like doing or not doing. Don’t get me wrong I still try to be active during the day but the days of coming down on myself for not completing small task are in the past. If I did not wash the dishes, its ok they will be there tomorrow. Didn’t sweep the floor like I said I would, that’s fine a little dust never hurt anyone. Didn’t cook that fancy meal I been planning, it’s cool there are other things to eat in the kitchen. These little acts of rebellion have been my saving grace. They have allowed me to concentrate on the things that are important, even if they are only important to me. At its core isn’t that what selfcare is, taking time to fulfil the things that are meaningful to you?

We are living through a pandemic; our timelines are flooded with racial injustice and we have lost some of our most loved icons. This year has been a lot to say the least. We all need time to process and heal. I remember back in March when the pandemic first closed the world off, many people on social media encourage their followers to not waist this time in quarantine. I remember reading a post that said something along the lines of how everyone should come out of this with a business or a new skill. I disagreed greatly. Bryann Andrea tweeded “This is a pandemic. Not a productivity contest.” This is the same view I took then and still stand by. This time in history is not study hall. There were days when it felt like the weight of the world fell on my back. The last thing I wanted to do was apply more pressure to my already fragile state. Because I took time to rest my body and mind I was able to move forward.

If it brings you joy to start that business you have always wanted to start, great do it! If it brings you joy to breakout your camera, pose then post, amazing do that. If beings you joy to sit and watch all the Marvel movies in order, that is fine too. With all that is going on the goal is not to become super you, the goal is to cause no harm to yourself. We are all entitled to grace, not only during this time but all the time. I do not want to encourage people to sit around and feel bad. There are absolutely days when you should wake up, dust yourself off and conquer the world but that does not have to be everyday.

Never neglect you because at some point someone is going to need something from you and you will be dry. You cannot pour from an empty cup.
