How Much Do You Really Protect Black Women?

Recently an innocent Black Woman was shot. The fact that you may not know which innocent Black Women I am referring to is a problem in itself but I digress. I am referring to Megan Thee Stallion. Not too long-ago Megan felt the need to share images of her feet that had been wounded by bullets thanks to Tory Lanez. After reading the caption I realized that she felt the need to share these images because people didn’t believe that she was actually shot. Not only did they not believe her they came to the defense of the person who shot her. Wild right? Well not really because this happens more than we realize. Think about how many times Black Women must convince others that we are not angry, that we are not treated equally and that we do not feel protected by our men or society.

In the months of June and August, I, a Black Women had to debut with two black men about the fact that Black Women are the least protected people on earth, because THEY DIDN’T BELIEVE ME! They didn’t even give me the credit of knowing my own experience.

Throughout history we have always had to take on more and say less. As slaves while black men worked the fields Black Women were being raped and then sent back to work those very same felids. While black men were expected to be the bread winners, black women were expected to raise children, create a suitable home and support their man without fail all while facing the same racisms. Black women are many times stuck with having to be single parents while attending school, creating opportunities for themselves and uplifting those around them. We uplift, rebuild and support others but who dose that for us? The answer to that question is US. Many times the people standing behind Black Women are other Black Women, who don’t need proof of their traumas because we know the trauma all too well.

As a Black Women I love the fact we are viewed as strong and able to overcome challenges but before anything we are people, we are women, we are not indestructible. We deserve to be viewed as feminine, delicate and vulnerable the same as any other women.

Just because we curry our burdens with grace does not make them less heavy.

Xoxo,

Sigourneyb

P.S. The police officers who murdered Breonna Taylor were not charged with her murder but instead for potentially harming the people in the apartment next to hers. Where is the protection in that?
